Hamilton ON - The Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour (HHJGT) was graced with beautiful weather Sunday June 1 as aspiring junior and bantam golfers teed it up for the annual qualifier on the Martin Course at Chedoke Golf Club.

Golfers were competing for a 2014 membership on the Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour. There were 33 spots available in the Junior Division (ages 15-18) and 12 spots in the Bantam Division (ages 10-14). Any ties were broken through retrogression according to the lowest back nine score. The 2014 Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour roster will be finalized with the addition of 13 returning exempt juniors that includes 2013 Bantam Champion Johnny Travale who has opted to play as a Junior for 2014.

Successful Qualifying Day
Low Qualifier in the Junior Division was Andrew Russ from Oakville ON whose home club is Trafalgar G&CC, shot a 2 over par 72. Commenting on his round Russ said, “I played my own game all day and I struck the ball well and played well overall so I am pretty happy.” He looks forward to being part of the tour and said his goal for the season is to stay positive and “to keep his head up during rough patches.”

In the Bantam Division, low qualifier from Burlington ON was Marcus Khaw, shooting an even par round of 70. Pleased with his round Khaw said, “I feel good because I played well and it was fun.” One of his personal goals for the season is to shoot under par. After an impressive round today, Khaw who calls Piper’s Heath Golf Club home is sure to accomplish this goal.

In the Girls Division, a qualifier was not required. Returning to the tour will be the top 2 girls in point standings from the 2013 season, along with 6 additional golfers giving the Tour a full Girls field for 2014.

The Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour would like to thank all players for participating in the qualifying tournament. The Tour Officials would also like to extend its congratulations to the 45 golfers who have qualified for the 2014 season.

The Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour will have its first tour stop at Clublink’s Blue Springs Golf Club in Acton ON on Wednesday July 2.

About HHJGT:

The Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour was established in 1984 with the primary goal to create a junior golf championship for the Hamilton/Halton regions, while providing a forum in which junior players, aged 18 and under, could enhance their considerable talents through competition with their peers.  The Tour was the first of its kind in Ontario and remains one of the most affordable junior tours in the province.

The Tour provides opportunities for players to make new friends and learn valuable life lessons.  Past Champions and Tour players have used their Tour experience to obtain educational and golf scholarships throughout the U.S. and Canada to further pursue their education and golfing careers.
