![]() By: Michaela DiMarcantonio Hamilton, ON – Gregg Goddard was awarded his second HHJGT Junior Champion title at the Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour banquet on August 21 at Glendale Golf and Country Club. Gregg Goddard ended the season with a total of 1465 points to be named the HHJGT Junior Champion. He finished ahead of Zac Moore with 1245.33 points. Highlights of Gregg Goddard’s 2014 season on the HHJGT include 2 wins, and 2 runner-up finishes in 7 events. “It means the world to me to win this tour, all the work I’ve put in, it really paid off” said Goddard. Goddard’s most impressive performance of the season came at Rattle Snake Point Golf Club’s Copperhead course where he shot a 6-under par round of 66. He finished one shot ahead of Callum Biehn for the tour stop win. On route to his round of 66, Goddard made a total of 8 birdies that contributed to his 2014 Birdie Leader title. Daniel Knapp was named the 2014 Par Leader with a total of 75 pars.
Goddard has also been named captain of one of the two HHJGT teams set to compete at the Ontario Junior Team Championship. This event will take place at Goddard’s home club of Hidden Lake from August 25 to 26. Following the event, Goddard will graduate from the HHJGT as a back-to-back Junior Champion to pursue his education and golf endeavors at Guelph University. Also graduating from the HHJGT is the 2014 scholarship recipient, John Majerovich. He will be attending McMaster University to study within the Faculty of Engineering. While many players celebrated their final season on the HHJGT, the rookies celebrated their first. The Todd Shannon Memorial Rookie Award was presented to Scott Niewland. In the Bantam Division, Garnet Delsey was named the 2014 HHJGT Bantam Champion with a total 1632.50 points ahead of runner-up Matthew Flood and third place Marcus Khaw. “It means a lot to win, I’ve been practicing a lot on the range, all the hard work and time I’ve put in paid off,” said Delsey. The practice certainly paid off as Garnet Delsey had a consistent season. In the 7 events, he won 1 event, had 3 runner-up finishes and finished in third place twice. Garnet Delsey along with teammate Matthew Flood will also represent the HHJGT at the Ontario Junior Team Championship. In the Girls Division, Elanna Lachaine-DeMarchi was named the 2014 HHJGT Girls Champion. She earned a total of 1812.50 finishing ahead of 2013 Girls Champion Alyssa DiMarcantonio at 1750 points. Elanna Lachaine-DeMarchi had her best round of the season shooting a three-over par 75 at Rattle Snake Golf Club’s Sidewinder course at Tour Stop #3 to secure the win. Throughout the season she won two events, had 4 runner-up finishes and a third place finish. Elanna Lachaine-DeMarchi and Alyssa DiMarcantonio, alongside the Bantam and Junior Teams will be in the field at the Ontario Junior Team Championship this week and the Golden Horseshoe Cup in September. Complete Point Standings HERE Photos from the Final Banquet HERE About HHJGT: The Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour was established in 1984 with the primary goal to create a junior golf championship for the Hamilton/Halton regions, while providing a forum in which junior players, aged 18 and under, could enhance their considerable talents through competition with their peers. The Tour was the first of its kind in Ontario and remains one of the most affordable junior tours in the province. The Tour provides opportunities for players to make new friends and learn valuable life lessons. Past Champions and Tour players have used their Tour experience to obtain educational and golf scholarships throughout the U.S. and Canada to further pursue their education and golfing careers.
