Ancaster – The Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour (HHJGT) members continued their season at Clublink’s Heron Point Golf Links Thursday July 31 for Tour Stop #4. Despite the threat of thunderstorms in the forecast, all the HHJGT members were able to complete their rounds under sunny skies.

In the Junior Division, after 18 holes of tournament play Thomas Giroux from the Club at North Halton and Johnny Travale of Glendale Golf Club sat atop the leaderboard, with matching rounds of 3-over par 74. They entered a sudden death playoff that would continue for 6 holes.

The defining moment came when Thomas Giroux stuck his approach shot within a few feet of the pin on the green of the 6th playoff hole. Giroux went on to make his putt for birdie, while Travale, 2013 Bantam Division Champion was not able to sink his longer putt for birdie.

Thomas Giroux, Tour Stop #4 Division winner was pleased with his round of 74,   “especially considering the tough conditions” at Heron Point Golf Links said Giroux.

For his win, Giroux gains 300 points, moving him up to 7th in the Junior Division 574.50. Currently leading in the Point Standings for the Junior Division is Gregg Goddard with 755.00.

The Bantam Division title for Tour Stop #4 was awarded to Marcus Khaw of Piper’s Heath Golf Club. Having recently returned from a 26 place finish for his age division in the Teen World Championships held at Pinehurst Golf Club, Khaw used the momentum to shoot a 1-over par round of 72 at Heron Point Golf Links.

Speaking about his round, Khaw commented: “I played pretty well, except for one double bogey on a par 5.”

Marcus Khaw adds 300 points from his win at Heron Point Golf Links to increase his lead atop of the Bantam Points Standings for the 2014 HHJGT season.

Winning her second straight victory in the Girls Division was Elanna Lachaine-DeMarchi from Grey Silo Golf Course.

“It was an up and down day… even though I didn’t make any! I shot 87 but it could have been better. I’m still proud of my round though,” said Lachaine-DeMarchi.

Elanna Lachaine-DeMarchi also gains 300 points for her victory and no takes over the lead in the Girls division with 1100 points.

The HHJGT members will continue to gain points for the season as they tee it up at ClubLink’s Greystone Golf Club on Tuesday August 5.
