The Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour (HHJGT) has entered its 32nd season of providing local junior golfers with an opportunity to develop their competitive games in a friendly and encouraging tour setting. Heron Point’s Jason Fitzgerald had an early rise this morning in order to get his HHJGT qualifying round in before heading off to Dundee Golf Club in New Dundee, Ont. for the Golf Association of Ontario Junior Boys Championship qualifier... Fitzgerald’s round included an impressive 1-under back nine en route to 72 to post the early clubhouse lead. Finishing one shot back of the leader, Jarett Fitzpatrick and Marcus Khaw tied for second place. Daniel Kim from Dundas Valley Golf & Country Club started the season off with a 77 that included 2 birdies on the back nine. “I had a good day, a few errors but overall it was a good day,” said Kim about his round. “I am looking forward to the summer playing against the other competitors and seeing just how well I can play.” Finishing in second place in the Bantam division was Victor Chu with an 8-over par round of 78. All Junior and Bantam golfers who posted a round of 83 or better have qualified for the 2015 HHJGT. In total 39 Junior Boys and 12 Bantams will join the exempt players from the 2014 HHJGT season and the Junior Girls to comprise the 2015 HHJGT roster. “There was an extreme amount of excitement and anticipation from the junior golfers today.” Said Jim Kenesky President of the HHJGT. “We had a full field and saw the tightest qualifying scores in years. All players, parents and volunteers should be proud of where this Tour is heading.” The HHJGT would like to extend its gratitude to Shaun Tyler and Andrew Vento of the Humber College Professional Golf Management program for being on site today to support the tour. The PGM Program at Humber will become title sponsor of the Final Event on the 2015 schedule at Blue Springs along with the Banquet and awards ceremony. More details regarding this partnership will be released soon. The first tour stop on the 2015 schedule will be hosted by Clublink’s Hidden Lake Golf Club on Thursday July 2.
