On January 13, 2014 the Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour Board of Directors met and discussed some hot topics and potential changes for the 2014 season.  A couple of the Agenda items were as follows:
  • 2014 Tour Schedule
  • Tour Discipline Policies and Procedures
  • Atmosphere at Events
  • 2014 Humber Cup

Please find below details on each item and do not be afraid to leave any comments, questions, or concerns.  We will review all comments and ideas that are put in front of us...

2014 Tour Schedule

The 2014 Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour schedule was passed and released on Monday.  The Board wishes to thank Ian Clarke for his hard work over the past few months in setting up a wonderful schedule with 5 ClubLink facilities.  The Board also wishes to thank ClubLink for supporting the growth and well being of our tour by giving us this wonderful schedule.  We feel this schedule is one of the best to date and will cover 7 exciting rounds of golf at 5 different ClubLink facilities.  We feel this gives our players the best test to determine the overall champion in each division.

Tour Discipline Policies and Procedures

Over the course of last season and into the off season, it was brought to our attention that the Tour Discipline Policies were not enforced and at times being taken advantage of.  With the release of our 2014 schedule and the wonderful gesture by ClubLink, the Board felt the need to revamp the outdated player Code.  Over the next couple months the design of a new Tour Code of Conduct and Discipline Policies will be released to ensure our players are respecting the grounds, facilities, other tour members, and tour officials.  The new Code of Conduct will see a higher allotment of demerit points for breaches and suspension of events if a player has multiple infractions.  We will keep you posted on the movement of this topic and it will be expected of players to sign a terms of agreement upon registration this season.

Atmosphere at Events

During the playing of our last few seasons the atmosphere at events (signage, volunteer presence, scoring, etc.) has dwindled and at times seemed non existent.  In the last meeting it was discussed that there needs to be more of an event atmosphere that rivals that of competitor tours and Association events.  We want to give our players the best experience we can with the means that we have.  The Tour is looking into the presence of more signs, better first tee experience, official registration table, player interviews, and much more.  We would love to hear of any upgrades or areas of concern from tour members and those close to the tour.  In the end this will enhance the Tour experience and assist in preparing our players for the next level.

2014 Humber Cup

Picture
The HHJGT has successfully won the Humber Cup in three straight seasons and the Tour will be looking to make it four in a row on home soil.  We are hosting the 2014 Humber Cup and are  in the early stages of planning the event.

The Humber Cup involves much support and a team effort to put on a great event for the Provincial Junior Tours Championship.  The venue is yet to be determined and we'll be actively searching for a host club in the weeks to come.   Please stay tuned as we release more details about this wonderful event.

The Humber Cup or otherwise known as the Ontario Junior Tours Championship sees the local junior tours from across Ontario come together to compete in a two day 54 hole event.  The top four finishers from each tour's Order of Merit compete for the Championship in a team event.  There are also separate Bantam and GIrls divisions from many of the tours.

Final Thoughts

With January slowly ending we are excited with the great changes and enhancements coming in 2014.  One upgrade to look for and not mentioned above will be the introduction of Online payments and Tour registration.  Again, we are looking to keep the HHJGT up with the times and give the best possible experience with the means that we have.  If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them below.  Our Next Board meeting is scheduled for Monday February 10, 2014.
