Hamilton Halton Junior Golf Tour

2021: the HHJGT's 38th Season

History of the Tour

The Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour was established in 1984 with the primary goal to create a junior golf championship for the Hamilton/Halton regions, while providing a forum in which junior players, aged 18 and under, could enhance their considerable talents through competition with their peers.  The Tour was the first of its kind in Ontario and remains one of the most affordable junior tours in the province.

From humble beginnings, the Hamilton/Halton Junior Golf Tour has come a very long way.  The vision from the start was to build the Tour on the basis of sustainability.  If it could not be sustained on a user pay and private sponsor basis, then it should cease to exist.  There are no public funds associated with the Tour.

The first title sponsor of the Tour was Apple Computer in 1984. The Tour was sponsored by Accuform Canada from 1985 until 1995 then Wilson Staff Golf Canada from 1996 to 2006 (known as "Wilson Staff Junior Golf Tour").  The tour was sponsored by Bick Financial from 2007 through 2009 and known as the Bick Financial Junior Golf Tour.

Humber Cup/Ontario Junior Tour Team Championship

Today there are approximately a dozen other similar junior tours in the province.  At the end of each summer, all of the junior tours in Ontario put together a team of their top four players and they come together to compete in a two day, 54 hole event for the Humber Cup/Ontario Junior Tour Team Championship (formerly the Bill Millar Tournament).  Our Tour was instrumental in originating this event and our Tour has captured the overall title on numerous occasions.

Ontario Summer Games

Top performers from the HHJGT are select to represent the tour in the Ontario Summer Games, a biennial celebration of youth sports in Ontario.  This year's evnt will be contested in London, Ontario, at a venue to be announced, and will be contested from July 29-August 1, 2021.

The Tour Today

The Tour is run today in keeping with the traditions that were started when the Tour began in 1984.  A reasonable registration fee allows the Tour players to participate in the tour at an affordable price and provides them seven exciting rounds of golf, friendly competition and a year-end awards banquet.

7-Event Tour Season

The Tour provides opportunities for players to make new friends and learn valuable life lessons. Past Champions and Tour players have used their Tour experience to obtain educational and golf scholarships throughout the U.S. and Canada to further pursue their education and golfing careers. The Tour also provides a means for players to learn the rules of golf, the game's etiquette and how to compete to ensure their evolution as a golfer.

Non-Profit Organization

The Tour is operated by a Board of Directors that is comprised of volunteers from all walks of life (as outlined in the Annual Report). A few of these individuals are even former Tour players who have completed their education and who want to give back to the Tour and to the community. The Tour is a non-profit organization and is funded entirely by private support generously made by a title sponsor and fees collected during qualifying and registration.
